Brad's Bit: Pray to see changes in our world
We pray to see change in our world. There are currently 195 countries in our world today— and there is not one country that does not need change—that does not need Jesus and His kingdom to come, His will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Matthew 6:10 is the prayer that changes the world!
Albert Barnes, in his commentary Albert Barnes’ Notes on the Bible states: “The object of these three “first” petitions, is, that God’s name should be glorified and his kingdom established; and by being placed first, we learn that his glory and kingdom are of more consequence than our wants, and that these should be first in our hearts and petitions before a throne of grace.”
We cry out “Your kingdom come” (Matt. 6:10) – not our interruption or expectation, but “His” kingdom come in all His power, glory and majesty. We are told in Daniel “…to Him [the Son of Man] was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed” (7:14-27). His is the kingdom, that is, and always will be, exalted above all kingdoms, so we gladly pray “Your Kingdom Come!”
We declare “Your will be done” (Matt. 6:10) – not our will, our desire, our beliefs – but His will. We read in 1 John 5:14 “…that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” His will is spelled “WORD”; His Word is His Will. We pray His Word because all of heaven backs it. So, we pray for His will, His Word, to cover the earth as water covers the sea.
We pray His Word over the nations of the world because it will not return empty (Isa. 55:11), and Jeremiah 1:12 tells us He watches over His word to perform it. Shouldn’t we want to pray out something that has Spirit and life (Jn. 6:63), and will never pass away (Matt. 24:25; Lk. 16:17)? Only His Word is living and enduring, and stands forever (1 Pt. 1:23-25), “and the Scripture cannot be set aside or cancelled or broken or annulled” (Jn. 10:35 AMP). His Word is living and powerful (Heb. 4:12) and is God-breathed, the actual breath of God (2 Tim. 3:16). And 1 Kings 8:56 says not one word of His promises has ever failed! Why would we not want to pray and declare His Word over the earth?
“As it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10). So, what goes on in heaven? Continual exuberant praise and extravagant worship to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (see Rev. 4, 5, 7:9-12). It is a place of brilliant colors, rainbows, lightning, thunder, and loud voices giving glory, honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne (Rev. 4:2-11; Isa. 6:1; 40:22), a throne of mercy and grace. It is a kingdom of love (1 Jn. 4:16), righteousness, peace, and joy (Rom. 14:17). Yours oh Lord, is a kingdom of light (Rev. 21:23; Jn. 8:12; 1 Jn. 1:5). A place of awe, majesty, glory, honor, and power – void of darkness, chaos, confusion, disorder, evil, wickedness and death.
We cry out come kingdom of God, be done will of God, on earth as it is in heaven. We declare Your Word that You are God in heaven, and You do rule over all kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand, there is power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You. May the whole earth be filled with Your glory and may You be revealed to all flesh. Yes, may the glory of the Lord cover and evade every nation of the earth. We pray the fragrance of heaven permeate every square inch of the land affecting every man, woman and child. Oh, how we desire to see them bow down in adoration, giving praise, honor and glory to their Lord and Savior, King Jesus.
