Brad's Bit: Pray to walk worthy of our calling

Pray to walk worthy of our calling

We pray to walk worthy of our calling. We are admonished in 1 Thessalonians 2:12 “That we would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.” And we are beseeched by Paul to walk worthy of the calling with which we were called in Ephesians 4:1. May we fully grasp that we have the glorious opportunity, and yet serious responsibility, to walk in our God calling every day. To know what that looks like by spending time with Him in prayer and meditating on His Word.  Apostle Paul knew how critical it is for us as he urges us, exhorts us, in the name of Jesus, to walk pleasing to God in 1 Thessalonians 4:1. The only way to really know what pleases our Lord is to spend time with Him. To open the Scriptures and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to us how to walk pleasing to our dear Jesus.  Again, we are encouraged to walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in Colossians 1:10. I have to ask myself: Am I walking worthy of the Lord? Does my daily walk please my Father? Is my walk really fruitful? Isn’t this our true heart’s desire?  We are motivated to “walk in Him” as Colossians 2:6 points out. Are we not amazed, yet delighted, to learn we can walk just as Jesus walked in I John 2:6? And, we are instructed to walk in truth as 1 John 1:5 tells us. John 17:17 informs us that His Word is Truth, so in order to walk in truth, to walk in Him, to walk as Jesus walked, we must pray and study His Word. Let’s do this so we may walk worthy of God who calls us.  We are stirred to learn we were created in Christ Jesus for good works and that we should walk in them in Ephesians 2:10. May we set this as one of our top goals—to walk in the good works Christ Jesus created us to do.  The only way to know the good works He created us to walk in; the only way to know how to walk worthy of His calling on our lives; the only way to walk pleasing to Him; the only way to be able to walk as Jesus walked—is to be led by the Spirit of God (Rom 8:14 and Gal 5:16, 18 & 25). To daily dwell with Jesus and praying His Holy Word—is there any greater delight?  Oh Jesus, we really do rejoice in the fact that what You have called us to do – you also enable us to do, by the blessed Holy Spirit Whom you have given us and dwells within us. Wow, what more could we ask for Jesus! You so love us that you provided us with the Holy Scriptures to study, pray and learn from, so we may walk pleasing to You. We humbly ask You to search us, to examine us, to examine our walk, and enable us, by Your Holy Spirit, to study Scripture to know how to walk worthy of our calling. Jesus, You are our joy, You are our peace, You are our hope, You are our everything! And we humbly bow down in worship, thanking You for who You are and all You have done for us. We are overwhelmed with gratitude to You, Jesus.
