Brad's Bit: Pray For a deeper revelation of God
Pray For a deeper revelation of God
We pray for a deeper revelation of God’s Glory, Power, and Majesty. Recently my wife and I had the opportunity to spend some time on the North Shore of Lake Superior. We had a place right on this enormous lake where at sunrise, we could look out the sliding glass door and watch the waves sparkle as they rolled in as the sun was breaking forth. Once it warmed up, we could take about 25 steps and lean against a large black rock that glistened, listening to the sound of the waves and marvel at the sight of this exceedingly huge expanse of water shimmering in the sun.
Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world at 31,700 square miles and is 350 miles by 160 miles with a maximum depth of 1,333. As I gazed upon the beauty of the extensive rock shore, the crystal-clear blue water and the boundless sky, I was overcome with a deep sense of awe of my God’s Glory, Power and Majesty. Jeremiah 32:17 tells us that our Lord God made the heavens and the earth by His great power and outstretched arm. God also tells Isaiah He was the One who made the earth, heaven and stars (Isa. 45:12). And, Romans 1:20 informs us that all of creation testifies to a marvelous and magnificent Creator.
We are told in Psalm 19:1, the heavens declare the glory of God and the skies proclaim the work of His hands. As I stood there overwhelmed with His goodness towards us, His love for us, I was humbled the heavens and earth and all that dwell therein do declare His greatness, His awesomeness, and His splendor beyond words to describe. To me, it reflects His immense love for us as He created the earth for us to steward, watch over, and enjoy (Gen. 2:15). To work the land and rejoice in the harvest; to grab a handful of black soil, watch the seed grow into a crop, and then look up to the heavens and be overcome with gratitude of our great, wonderful, loving and caring Father. Oh, how He loves us so.
I needed this time to stop and gaze at the red pine, birch, a maple here and there, all the different kinds of shrubs, ground cover, the sounds of birds chirping away, the sun shining on my shoulders, and lift my hands to heaven to unabashedly worship my Jesus, who loves me, died for me, gave me eternal life. All the while basking in His glorious presence amongst His creation that He looked upon it and called it “good”. Oh, how can we ever thank You enough? I don’t think I can, but I am going to try.
I know for many in the world, the earth is only here to rape and plunder; for others, it is here to worship and provide pleasure. But, for believers in Christ, a conscience, prayerful walk in the woods, a stroll by a stream, lake or ocean, a hike in the desert, or the rich smell of freshly turned over soil should cause us to stop, lift our eyes and voice to heaven, and with tears of joy flowing down our face, with thanksgiving stirring in our hearts, praise and worship our Lord God Almighty. Oh, Creator God, thank You for Your creation that always points us back to You.
Oh, Jesus, how we love and adore You. We stand here with grateful hearts for all You have given us, all You have done for us – completely undone in our unbridled worship of You, our Lord and King. Every day, may we continually pray for a deeper revelation of Your Glory, Power, and Majesty. As we bask in Your creation, dwelling in Your presence, with a heart of thanksgiving, giving all praise and worship to You and You alone. Oh, how we love You.
