Ignite Your Faith: Does God Approve of You?

Does God Approve of You?

Most of us would answer something like, "Well, I hope so," or "I want Him to, but I'm not really sure." My question is: don't you know?

I am sometimes amazed when I ask people if they are saved and they cannot give a resounding YES. There should be an assurance of salvation. Why? Because the Bible tells us so.

1 John 5:13 tells us that these things are written so that we who believe in the name of the Son of God may know that we have eternal life.

The key comes down to being a student of God's Word. 2 Tim. 2:15 KJV tells us to study to show ourselves approved unto God, as a workman who has no need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. A workman building a house needs to study the blueprint before he can build it properly.

I used to have an aunt who thought she knew something about building. She took every piece of scrap she could find and nailed it onto the house, thinking she had really improved it. I’m glad she never got to do anything structural, or the whole thing would have fallen down. That is exactly how some people live their spiritual lives, and as a result they are never quite sure of anything.

Folks, we have to go to God's Word to know how He expects us to live lives that are pleasing to Him. Jesus is the Living Word, and everything about Christian living is revealed in Scripture. I ran into some young men the other day from the denomination that has the angel blowing the trumpet on top of the steeple. I let them share for a few minutes, and what they said sounded good. Eventually I stopped them and said, "Men, the only problem with what you're saying is that you believe the Bible is just one of the books you go by. I believe the Bible is the one and only all-sufficient rule of faith and practice, and I am going to pray for you that you will come to see and accept that." They let me pray with them right there on the spot.

The revelation of God's Living Word to people, believers and unbelievers alike, is one of the great reasons we pray. So let's pray.
