Debbie's picture of the two pulleys had me praying about if they were connected to the Arikaree and the Purgatoire rivers. I found that the Arikaree peak near Boulder feeds into the Boulder watershed and empties
into the Arikaree river which flows into the North Republican fork where the Indian battle occurred.
The Purgatoire river's headwaters start in the Culebra (snake) mountains. The Spanish early visitors were driven by a lust for gold (mammon), and much killing and infighting occurred. Also the Purgatoire river. It shares a border with New Mexico, and it flows into the Arkansas River near Las Animas in Bent county. It runs through Trinidad, then into the Commanche grassland where it got its name in Spanish as the River of Lost Souls due to murder and division in the canyon (now called Picketwire)..
